January 28th, 2016

  • History was made this year in the 74th annual (Mr. Harres' guesstimate) New Berlin Junior High National Geography Bee.  For the first time ever, both the Champion and Runner Up were 6th graders!  Congratulations to Shouri Gomatham - who is this years' Grand Champion, and Peyton Schurman - who finished as the runner up!
  • Congratulations to Sierra Eigenmann and Braeden Scheerer as the top two 8th grader spellers.  Also, congratulations to Will Cummings and Kayli Davis for winning the 7th grade level spelling bee.  Our 6th grade winners are Taylor Darr and Shouri Gomatham.  All winners will advance to the county spelling bee in February at Pawnee!
  • 7th Boys Basketball ended their season in the Regional Semi-Final game against Plains on Tuesday.  Their final record for the season was 11-11.
  • February 5th at an 1145 Dismissal.  It is also 3rd quarter mid-term.

  • The Student of Character nominees for this week are: Ella Rogers (6th), Evan Harness (7th), Kayli Davis (7th), and Audrey Dundon (7th).

  • Scholastic Bowl will be selling apparel (Pretzel Gear, no specific to Scholastic Bowl).
  • The Illinois Youth Survey for 8th grade will be administered on 1/26 during PE Classes.  Information was sent via School Reach (and a letter was in report cards).
  • The Music Boosters will hold their Annual Chili Supper on January 26th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Tickets are $7 an adult and $4 per student. 
  • NBJH participated in Team Quest yesterday at the Sangamon County Fairgounds.  The 8th grade team of Zach Brewer, Pierce Bergschneider, Kyle Dickman, and Malena  Bixby placed 5th!  The following 7th graders also participated: Lauren Williams, Riley Crawford, Connor Schutz, and Jaxon Taylor.
  • The following students advanced to their grade level spelling bee that will take place, in class, next week.  The top 2 spellers will advance to the county bee in Pawnee on Wednesday, 2/24.
  • 8th grade - Jack Buchino, Alaina Coonrod, Cade Fitzgerald, Cole Belcher, Michael Ishmael, Braeden Scheerer, Jordan Pearson, Abby Stockton, Sierra Eigenmann, Jack Rogers, Malena Bixby, and Cora Lee will compete in the 8th grade spelling bee next week.
  • 7th Grade - Rylie Crawford, Matthew Drake, Hunter Wells, Will Cummings, Jaxson Schoen, Gavin Molloy, Levi Cycholl, Kirsten Tolliver, Kayli Davis, Evan Harness, Faith Nuss, and Audrey Dundon will compete in the 7th grade spelling bee next week.

  • Report cards for 1st semester will be mailed on Friday 1/8.
  • 8th graders will be meeting with Jostens on 1/11 to be sized for promotion gowns.  Our rep will discuss other purchasing options for promotion materials at that time.  8th graders do not purchase gowns.  The school provides one on the day of the ceremony and they are returned the same day.
  • On Tuesday, 1/12, a representative from frienedy (https://www.frienedy.com/) will be here to discuss Digital Citizenship with our Junior High students.
